Archipelago in the Helsinki area can offer great fishing almost year around. All seasons are very beautiful in the archipelago nature, with their distinct atmosphere and characteristics. However, for most species the best fishing seasons are definitely spring and autumn.
The fishing season starts typically in beginning of April, when the ice melts in the Baltic Sea. It’s maybe the best time of the year to catch big, +10kg pikes. Also sea trout and whitefish fishing is good right from the start of season. In May, these seasons continue, but also a good zander fishing season starts. Pike and zander continue to feed until June.
Zander fishing is good through the whole summer, sometimes also pike fishing if the weather stays cool. In Autumn, the perch fishing season starts properly, and remains really good until the end of the season. In Autumn also seasons for sea trout and big pikes start properly again, offering great fishing until the Baltic Sea is covered in ice again. Usually this happens in January. Sometimes the sea doesn’t freeze, and then fishing continues through the winter. Winter fishing provides less pikes than warmer seasons, but with big average size.
